The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2:13 p.m. today near the intersection of Washington Street and Atkinson Road, authorities said.

According to police, a black Volkswagen driven by the 19‑year‑old was traveling eastbound on Washington Street when it collided with a Toyota SUV that was attempting to turn south onto Atkinson Road. After the initial impact, the Volkswagen went off the road and struck a traffic light pole.

Emergency responders transported the young driver to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An 86‑year‑old woman driving the Toyota was taken to the hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries, officials said.

The Grayslake Police Department, with assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, is investigating the cause of the collision. No further details, including the identity of the victim, have been released.
