Ambulance Accident Today Hoffman Estates, Ill. — A serious crash involving an ambulance and multiple vehicles occurred early today on Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) in Hoffman Estates, injuring an emergency medical worker and leading to the arrest of a driver, authorities said.
According to the Illinois State Police, the collision happened at approximately 1:56 a.m. when a black Ford sedan and a black Kia SUV were involved in an initial crash on the westbound lanes near Barrington Road. An ambulance from A‑TEC Ambulance had responded to assist at that scene.
While emergency personnel were on‑scene, a semi‑truck struck the Kia and then overturned, pushing the disabled vehicle into an EMS worker who was outside the ambulance. The injured medic was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment.
The truck driver was also taken to a nearby hospital with injuries. Troopers arrested the driver of the Ford sedan on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
All westbound lanes of I‑90 were temporarily closed as crews responded, investigated, and cleared the crash scene. Traffic was diverted at Barrington Road and fully reopened by about 8:15 a.m. with motorists urged to exercise caution due to residual delays.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events and contributing factors.
